When submitting an obituary, the following order
is ‘suggested’ as a guideline, but all submissions are welcomed:

Format

  • Personal information: Name, age, City and State of birth (please do not provide the exact date of birth, which increases the chance of identity theft).
  • Cause of death: Optional.
  • Date of death: Day of the week, date and place of death (home, hospital, etc.).
  • What made them special: education, military, career, clubs, organizations, church, etc.
  • Unique activities: Hobbies, special interests, what they liked to do, etc.
  • Survivors: Separate relationship in ‘levels’ rather than 'families' - spouse; children (spouse); grandchildren (spouse); siblings; etc.
  • Preceded in death by: Optional.
  • Viewing (if appropriate) will be from (time) on (day) at (place) in (city, state).
  • Service information:
    • Viewing (if appropriate) will be from (time) on (day) at (place) in (city, state).
    • A (memorial, Mass, service, celebration of life) will be held at (time of day, day of week, date) at (funeral home, church, park, etc.) in (city, state) with burial at (cemetery name, city). (Note: If part of the service will be at the family home, rather than publishing someone’s home address (again, for security), provide instead, a phone number to call for more details).
  • Donations: Flower and memorial donation information.
  • Please include a name and phone number where I can reach you during the day!!!
  • All submissions will be edited for our format and a proof will be provided for your approval - I will call you when I have it ready for you to approve – the obituary will NOT run without your approval and payment.

Rates and Fees:

  • The first $25 for ALL obituaries pays for publication on Legacy.com - after publication in our paper, friends can go to legacy.com for 30 days and enter a personal entry in the guestbook of the deceased. (This online guestbook is also available for purchase through legacy.com).
  • Lines 1 – 15 ………………$2.10 per line  (A line is about 25-26 characters).
  • Lines 16 – 35 ……………...$6.40 per line.
  • Lines 36 and beyond ............$5.35 per line.
  • Price includes 10 copies of the newspaper (allow 7 to 10 business days).

Options

  • Photo ..................................$35.00 (limit one) (the best photos are a CLEAR, front shot, with no shadows or sunglasses, but a good contrast to the background in jpg format, with at least a 300 dpi).
  • Symbol........................................ $20.00 (limit one).
  • Second or subsequent runs will be discounted at fifty percent (50%) off. (This would include an additional publication for the Sun Bulletin or The Cambrian).
  • Laminated “Fond Remembrances” are available after publication that features the full text and any photo and/or symbol used for $5 each.

Deadlines

  • Submissions received before noon can be published the next day or any day following.
  • Saturday, Sunday, or Monday obituaries must be received by noon Friday.
  • Sun Bulletin and Cambrian submissions must be received by noon Monday.

Payment

All obituaries MUST be approved and paid for prior to publication. We accept four major credit cards, cash or check to the office (for your security, please do not provide credit card information via e-mail, but call the direct line at (805) 781-7834)
